STRAITE V. HONGKONG (SINGLES.)"

A. D. Cox of Singapore and H. E. Toussaint of Shanghai met on the courts of the Kowloon Cricket Club yesterday afternoon to decide interport honours. The game, after a pro. longed struggla, ended in favour of the southern representative by three sets to two. Toussaint showed himself to botter advantage Rhan against Carr, and started off by winning the Birat set 5/2. Cox played rashly at the outset, losing his morre twios in the first set, and making several double faults in the second est. Midway through this set, he tried a different serve, introducing more slica, and it won two games in succession. The players wore level on the finish of the fourth and six games, but Toussaint got the not three in enacession anıt won the not 6/3. Next net usw. Cox showing his mottle, and his hard drives kept the Frenchman travelling all over the court. Two all was called, then three all, and the nort three went to the Straits man, who won the set 6/3. Tenssaint was palpably weakening, but Cox was still fresh and his policy of tiring out his opponent justified itself. The Shanghai man lost the first two games, but won the third after deuco had boon called four times. Cox was a trifa erratio and placod just out of bounds. Another fast game went to Cox, but his rival scoured the next, and the Cox won a love game which made the score 4/2 in favour of the Straits champ- ion. Toussaint got a love game, which, however, ended his scoring so far as the socond set went, Cox winning 6/3. Toussaint started the third wat badly and it was evident he could not make any effective reply to Cox's placing. He won the third game, and though dence was reached in the sixth and seventh games he failed to score, and the set onded in favour of Cox 6/1. Cor had 23 games to Toussaint's 19. Mr. W. F.
