He expressed regret that none of the ex-directors of the coma- pany were present at the last mooting of the company, bat nevertheless he could not allow the opportunity to pass without making some remarks. Continuing, he said-It is obvious from what the liquidator has said that our money is lost; every cent of it, and that eron our creditors stand little chance of recovering their due. It is a deplorable business, gentle men, for which promoters and directors of the company might well bury their hands. In four years this Company, for various raons that have been explained and some that have aver been explained, has gone through its entire ospital of 860,000. Previous to that, gentlemen,

TRADE-MARKS AND PATENTS. The increased sale for articles of farelka manafectare has encouraged the imitation of foreign trade-marks and patents. It is satis factory to be able to record that the Chinese authorities in Canton are showing a disposition to protect British trade-marks, the most recent ease being the fining of a native shop-keeper for importing a spurious imitation of a well-known brand of sendensed milk.
The authorities. do not, however, extend this protection to patent articles, holding apparently that there is a distinction between the imitation of a trade-mark, with obvious intent to defraud, and the imitation of an article where the copy may be to all intents and purposes as good as the original.
