NEW TUNNELLING MACHINE INVENTED.
There was & trial recently in the yard of the New York Central Terminal Stution, at Forty- sixth street, of a newly designed compressed air power tennelling machine, intended to do away with the use of dynamite in tunnel work, and at the some time to cut a sunooth finished boro, thus saving time, expense and avoiding the danger generally attendant on such work.
This machine is the joint invention of Ed- ward F. Terry, of Terry and Treach Company, and Olin S. Proctor, of Denver. The machine is installed to drive on eight foot tunnel.
Driven by compressed air, the machine, which weighs about fifteen tons, can cut from twenty- five to seventy-five feet a day, according to the nature of the rock. Instead of sections baing ent out, the rock is pulverized and the broken anbstance may be used for concrete work or street surfacing,
