KING EDWARD AS CYCLIST.

His Majesty many years ago, before motor cars were even dreamed of, took to the tricycle, and it is interesting to learn that, woting on the recommendation of his medical advisers, His Majesty has just resumed this form of exercise. The roads on the Sandringham estate are beautifully made, and we can imagine uo more delightful pastime than a ride over them in the clear air of a Norfolk morning. The King's example is likely to revive the popularity of the tricycle, which we imagine has been

somewhat waning of late.

AN AMPHIBIOUS BICYCLE.

Mr. Moyer is fond of anggesting constantly in erer felicitous copiousness of illustration that the furces that from the beginning have been available in nature have their counterpart in the realm of the Spiritual; that the design of the Creator is to have men and women in such relations with himself, that all spiritual power and might may be theirs through the hitherto untried and undiscovered forces available for their use when once right relations are estab. lished between God and man.

A BEAUTIFUL SPRING BARUE, English gardens are largely indebted to Japan. † A number of flowers commonly grown indicate tasir Easter origin in their names. Thus we have the beautiful red pyrus japonica, the yellow roses of cercorns japonica, the white and pink Japanese anemones, and the handsome primaxla japonien, The camellia the chrysanthemum, again, both hail from Japan. One of the more revent introductions is the shrab forsythia now in the fall glory of its yellow blossom. In general appearance it resembles jessamin, to which it is nearly related. Though brought here from Japan forsythia is really a native of Chins, from whence the Japanese obtained it.

A WONDERFUL PRAE.

According to the American Consul at Zazzi bar, the traders of South and Central Africa are earnestly disenssing the commercial poesi bilities of the prickly peace. There seems to some doubt whether it should be eradicated or enltivated. The pear is reported to be sait- ablo for the production of soap, spirits, cattle food, unbreakable domestic utensils, linoleum substitute, sugar, and leather. Experimente have been made in the manufacture of paper 1.om the prickly pear. "WEARY WILLIES. "

Life on a workhouse form is not without its humour. That, at any rate, is what one gathers from the report of the labeur master of the farm of the Manchester Union, who was asked to report on the conduct of some of the men at test work. Here are a few of his comments: A-Does not like work; an old hand at work

The fall significance of this general approval cannot be realised muless one remembers that Mr. McLaren has figured but very rarely in first-class cricket during the past year or two owing to increasing calls of bases (he was for some time private secretary to Prince Ranjit sinhji, Jam Babib of Nawaniger), and also he has been a victim to rheumatism: The Eng. fish captain is a very firm believer in the theory. that no man should play first-class cricket unless he is in first-class trim and to no one would he apply this law more rigidly than to himself.

His first appearance in county cricket, too, is well worthy of note, for at the tender age of eighteen he scored 109 for Lancashire against Sussex at Brighton, a precocious Harrovian indeed.
