From Cheng yang gate of Peking to Mukden over 1900 7. The first section from Tengahan Coal Mine to. Tientsin and Shanhaik was wat completed in 7th your of Kwangru (1881), and in 1895 (the 21st year of Kwangan) the line between Tieten and Inkao-chino was built In 1898 a loan was raked from the British and Chinese Corporation to complete the lize outside Shaahaikwan and a branch line to Yinkow. In 1901 a branch line to Tangohow was completed and Mukden WILS retrocoded to China by

Japan. The Government has over $21,994,000 invested in this railway and there is a loan £2,300,000 obtained from the British and Chiness Corpora tion and sles the auta of Yen 1,660,000 for the redemption of the Hainmingtung Makden line. The revenue for the 34th year of Kwangsu (1908-9) is about 811,057,000 and the working about 83,906,0 0, expenditure on constructional works amounts to about 81,953,000 and the interest paid about 81,883,000. The gres profit is 83,320,000. After taking away the sum of Thels 410,000 for the Peiyang, Tacks 50,000 for the Board of Civil Administration, Turis 1,300.000 for the Peking Kalgan Railway thro is only $799.000 net profit.

The prot made this year is 8141. about $3,117,000 but after dedusting the twenty per cent, interest to the Belgian syndicate and also the amount transferred to the reserve fund there remains the sum of $2.244,000 as net profit.

SHANGHAI-NANKING RAILWAY,
