made a good, but ineffectual attempt to hond in. The kick out saw Myers and Brecks carrying the play towards the goal of the King Alfred, and the first opportunity of the Bedford came through a foul by one of the opposing forwards. This was safely cleared, but the Bedford continued aggressive. A miskick by Lantern gave Shirt au ypportunity which he took full advantage of, but Tugwell cleared cloverly. Two corner kicks followed, and on the second a sharp struggle ensued, Shirt relieving the pressure by kicking over the horizontal. The ball was then carried to the other end of the field, but speedily roturned, Tugwell giving an unnecessary corner. This, fortunately. proved unproductive, and the Bedford were straight-way forced to defend. A flying shot came Lee's way but he put too much force into the kick and sent the hall high over the got. The King Alfred, how ever, kopt up a fierce bombardment on their opponents stronghold, but the defence of the Bedford was sound, and no damage was done. Then the flagship players were driven back ou their own defence, and a reckless rual on the part of Tugwell left the goal open. The back, however, put up a stubborn fight against the invaders and sue ceeded in clearing. Once more the King Alfred pressed and some anxious moments followed for the Bedford keeper, but he kept his gcal intact
