NEARLY HALF A MILLION CLAIMS. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has informed Mr. Timothy Davies, M.P., that the total num- ber of claims received by the old age pension- officers up to the 10th inst. amounted to 468,164.
Of this number there came :—
From England, 273,862. From Ireland, 131,610. From Bootland, 49.077. From Wales. 13,615. We are officially informed that the Treasury hare appointed all persons for the time being holding the appointments of supervisor or officer of Excise in the service of the Board of Inland Revenue to be pension officers, such and so many of those oflcers as may for the time being, by order of the Board of Inland Revenue, be stationed within each Excise district, to act subject to the instructions of that Board as pension officers for the area comprised in each such district.
