Messrs. D. A. M. Brown and Phillips had writ en to the local papers emphatically deny ing that such a resolution bad been passed or discussed by the European Chamber of Com. meros. He took this denial as correct, and said. such letter had not-only proved interesting but was also appreciated by ine and all sa being in

The Chinese shopkeepers had generally under- stood that such a resolution, which had been spoken of by European import merchants in the market, moant that it had been passed by the European Chamber of Commerce.
