SHANGHAI is again experiencing trouble in connection with that peculiar institution which it calls the Mixed Court. There was wrangling between an eminent and admittedly respectable and qualified Ameri- can counsel and the Chinese Magistrate, who had sitting with him on this occasion, very fortunately, an American Assessor. We are glad that the Assessor happened to bo American, not because he did anything to smooth matters, but because the rupture is simplified by being limited to one foreign nationality. The foreign opinion at Shang hai secins to be that Dr. BARCART, the Assessor, is not playing, the game. He is

No one acquainted with the struggle engaged In by the Municipal authorities to secure re- cognition by Cciness cfleisis of the Mixed Court's jurisdiction could suppose that Li Chun-lan would be handed over to the Chinese without the express sanction of that Court, saya our contemporary, and adds: From yester day's trial we may deriva this que consolation that the correctness of this assertion was admit- ted by Dr. Barchat, inzerust as he insisted upok a second warran being issued for the arrest of Li Chun-lan on a different charge from the one on which he had appeared in Court,
