YARN TRADE IN JAPAN,

Referring to the cotton yarn murkof-6- Japanese contemporary observes that the market is reduced to a dritical position, quotations on the Osaka Yarn Exchange falling below 1110 per balo. In consequence a number of failures among ootton wasvers in the interior ers re ported, while a leading cotton fara merchant in Tokyo has met with the same fate. The reason of these failures is that the price of forward contrasts made last year is now mach above the ruling rate, and the contracts ean only be carried out at a loss. It is estimated that many of these former contracts involve a loss of over YIC per bals at the present rates, and deliveries in such case have almost ceased. Spinning companies are hesitating to compel delivery to be taken as that would cause the holders of contracts to us- pend payment, and so injwavy onsen virtasi con cellation isagreed upon, with the result that Csaks cotton yarndealers have lost. heavily on forward contracts. Delers of standing, however, cannot break contracts in this fashion without risk to their reputation, but where deliveries are taken they remain in gedown; it being imposible to wall at a profit. In the same way, spinning companies cannot deliver goods without risk and they also are compelled to hold part of In introducing the suggestion, the Chairman thoir production, with the result that profiis on remarked on the unsatisfactory working for the forward contracts already entered in their past year and the poor prospect which confront accounts have id be struck out. Mr. R. Arnold.
