Bordean-Although delayed by the rains in spring, the flowering took place under favour able conditions, but the gathering was hindered by continuong falls of rain, and this bas andoubtedly had its effect on the Wines.pro dreed, which compare unfavourably with those of 1906. These are developing to our full satisfaction, being full-bodied, stout, and wall golored The Wines of 1964 have conflemed the opinion we formed of them at the outset, it is indeed a remarkable vintage,

Borgundy The Vintage of 1917 has been adversely affected by the rains, the differ-nos in the Wine made during the first half of the Vintage and that made in the second half being very marked, though that gathered in the first half will be little inferior to the Wins of 1996. This Vintage and that of 1904 are indeed mest excellent.

Champagno.-The Wines made at the start promise to be of sound ordinary quality, but torrential raios bave spoilt the Vintage. There is, however, plenty of the 1900 Vintage still on the market, and the Vintages of 1904 and 19 6 will be in every way satisfactory.

of

Saumar. The year of 1907 will not prová s Vintage one, but has turned out better than expected. As with Champigue, the 1903 Vintage is deservedly popular, and thom of 1904 and 1908 are

most favourably. will be inferior to that Organo,-The quality ill probably be one

and the 1905 third less. The Wy

sare low in strength and buyers must fall back on the 1996 Brandies.

The yield may be reckoned at half a Vintage, and owing to the gold wet sammer the Wines will not be of great promiss.

PORTUGAL..

the The Vintage of 1907 suffered from vagaries of the weather. We expect the pro- duation approximately to be $4,000 Piper, the Wire being in every way thoroughly sound. The 1900s are shewing splendidly. It is cheering to find the Medical profession generally recommending the consumption of the higher qualities of this truly delightful W.

THE BOOK OF THE UNION JACK CLUB.

The Council of the Ualon Jack Club have already sancunsad their intention of producing an illustrated book next year, containing artialos, stories, poems, and sketches by well-known anthers and artists, in order to obtain tho necessary funds for building the much needed extension of the Club. The amount required is of £10,000. It is hoped that with the sssistance

the atid be ts of friends of tha Navy and Army the Club among the general public, the number The of copies sold will resuh half-a-million price of a spy will be Is. net. The book will bo publish a throughout the British Empire, and the Council onfidently expect that many firme in the United Kingdom will consider it an excellent median for advertisemeate on secount of the en mous slronlation. In taking advantage of this opportunity, every advertiser will get fall value for his favest want and at the same time support a deserving untional causs,

In beir previous commsaicstion the Council render assistance by contributing towards the supply of paper, ink, blocks, &^, and also help with the printing sud pablishing. It is most grating to not that airuady several firms, whose name will be subeg ently announced, hey ganaronsly responded to this invitation, bat farther support is still needed to reduce the Council have every reason to be ieve that they cost of the production ta minimum. Tho are not appealing in vain, and that others will como forward to lighten the harden of their fabour for Bullora sed soldiers.

Sherry. The yield is smaller than last year, oving to the boisteronu East winds which a orched up the crop of grapes. The Mustaxprés al hope that som patriotic Arms would shew a density of rather over than under 13 degree Braame, and should develop into good stont Wines with plenty of body. The due quality of Sherry now being offered scoms to have at last attracted the attention of the community in England, and a gratifying in. crease in sales is notified.
