Naturally this exhibition did not call forth mach applause for infinitely better dancing cac be seen any day in Tokyo. is the attraction in the Bon-aderi? To the foreigner, simply its naturalness, which the Japanese are certainly not accustomed to in these performances. The girls dance upon the stage to rigorous tattoo on saké barrels ac- companied by the flat. As they duos they BJ many smile (instead of looking like antonists) and by their movements suggest that they have partaken of a cup of saké hofors beginning, for their dancing dellestely and grecofntly suggests a little giddiness in the head! The contrast between this display and an ordinary dance must have been most striking to a Japanese for the spirit of gaiety and abasilou, combined with pretty dresses and lively dancing was sufficient to arouse the enthusiasm of the most phlegmatic. It is interesting to know that the authorities stop. pod this from of dan in Nugats because of its immoral effent upon the rustic youth, but the show I bave endeavoured to describe was rather delightful in its simplicity and naturalness.
