Macao, let August 1997. Sin, Your well known paper has recently publieked various correspondence discussing Macro affairs, but the author, in some cases, bae been less authentic in his statements and leas just in his comments than he ought to be.

As the correspondence published in your issue of the 30th July referred to us, and as the account therein contained of what passad at tha weeting of the Chinese Community is far from being correct, we beg} you'tha favour to grant ng some space in your widely read pupse for the insertion of thea, linos.

The meeting, which took place on Saturday last, at the Chinese Hospital, had been convened by order of His Freellency the Governor and

(a) That the tax recently levied on Chinese dostore has been cancelled; but that an indus- trial contribution would be levied according to their annual profite;
