The French Colonial Cotton Association, which was started three years ago by the French estton manufacturers with tho objet of exploring the French enlcuies for the par- pose of sscertaining where colon old by advantageously grown, has obtained surprising results, which seems to warrant its confidence that in a fow years the French colonies will be able to supply a considerable portion of the raw cotton consumed in Fra ace.

In round figures France bought over 400,009,000 fraces worth of raw cotton last year, chiefly from the United States Unlike the British Cotton-growers' Association, the French society was not organized with the object $6,000.00 of profit, but with the purpose simply of furnishing free seed to the local inhabitants of €1.703.43 of the colonies for test purposes upon the 237,946.37 understanding that the association would buy 5835.68 +78 all cotton producel Seeds were sent not only jo hitherio nutried regions in Algeria and Tunis, where there has been for many years some attempt at cotton growing, but into the Frenel Bondan, Senegal, Erench Congo, on the west coast of Africa, Dahomey, Madagascar and Indo-China. Even little Guadeloupe did not escape. American and was principally used, the best results being obtained with Mississippi, Louisiana and Sea Island,
