THE NEW TIBET CONVENTION.
Peking, April 23rd. The essential points of the Augio-Tibetan treaty which has been concladed between the British Minister and the Waiwapn are:--
(i) Great Britain recognises Tibst to be a protectorate of China.
(i) Grast Britain will not interfere in the internal affairs of Tibet, so long us no other Power attempts to do so.
(i) China will open roron imarkets in Tibet for trade with Indis, and erect telegraph lines.
(iv) Great Britain shall bare the preference in regard to railway, mining, and other con- cessions in Tibot, but if any such concessions are granted only Chinese shall be employed in carrying out the works.
(5) Tho un of Taels 2,400,000 is to be paid to Great Britain to defray the cost of the recent Mission to Lhassa.
