DE ROUGEMONT AGAIN,

AN IMAGINARY PERSECUTION.

Following on Louledo Rougemont's remart- able explanation of how he came te astonish the world in 1898 by declaring that be had spent thirty years along among the aborigines of Australin, the Daily Expren publishes some details of the terrible penalty that was attached to that terminological inexactitude."

Probably a lie has never had a more bitter price. Though correct in most of his details, de Rongement took such an extraordinary hold on the popular imagination at firat that when it discovered the deception he was never forgiven. So woll are Imais de Rougemont's features known that people torn nud say, "There go the liar!" when he walks along the street. Evory door has been closed to him, and he has bad to suffer snabe, insults, and cruelties ionuarablo. The last eight years have been for him one long struggle to convince people that he is in reality an honest man.

In his own words he gives below the extraor dinary story of his painful experiences:-
