Nothing was then done until November 19th, when the plaintiff was proceeded against at the Police Court and acquitted. On the facts stated Mr. Thomson submitted that there was an absence of reawo- able and proper cause for the defendant to take proceeding. He was apprised of the contract with Lam Woo, and it was perfectly optimal for him to sek Jam Woo about it, and whether the plaintiff's was a tramped-up story. real reason the defendant took proceedings was to attempt to force the plaintiff to return the money which he thought was due to him; it was not a bumi fide attempt on the part of the defendant to bring the plaintiff to justice.
After houring the evideren of the plaintiff, tory; he said he could not make ant why the Polios Magistrate did not keep him. A jury at home would at this stage say they had bad. enough of it.

We think some of them mistaken, as when it is said that Bagland was permitted exclu.ive privileges to observe the last naval war; and that, the now design is result of the lessons so obtained. We regard it as an evolutional predust, rather than a sudden inspiration.
