days.
THE OFF-DAT
Although skenis still obscured the sun, and mist encircled the surrounding hills, weather conditions at Happy Valley on Saturday were considerably hotter than on any of the previous days of tho racos. The turf was a little harder, which made better timas possible. The atten- dance was as large, and the excitement which prevailed as great os on the more important Between races, pleasing selections of music were played by the band of the Royal West Kents. Undoubtedly the surprise of the day was the winning by Shimeosite of The provious por. the Knight's Cup race. formances of this pony did not justify any confidance being placed in him; consequently when the race started only 38 hackers wore on the outsider, who ran hos an easy winner. His patrons drew the highest dividend paid for the day, $103.16. II. E. the Governor arrived- at the Valley shortly before the first race, and remained to the last.'
