One of the first sets of my administration was the employment of Messrs Prics, Water house & Company, chartered accountants of Grest Britaia sud New York, and Meor Haskins & Sells, certified pablic accountants of New York, to inv stigate the affairs of the Society, under directions to render complete and exhaustive reports on the following sub. jools
1. The Society's annual expenses, including lagal expenses, advertising expses, agency expenses, and cost of securing business.
2. The real estate investments of the Com. pang, including in the case of each parcel the value at which it is carried upon the books of the Society: the income which it yields; and the fair valuation of the property, whether above or below the value at which it is carried upon the books of tas Society. Under the past menage cant tansactions- involving the expenditure of large sums of money have been carried through frequently without any proper authority of the Board of Directors and with very meagre bookkeeping records, so that has been diflent in many insinucus to secure explanation of certain trau eactions which have taken place during the last ten years, some of which involve a financial loss to the Society.
The liabilities disavowed by the Society, and the amounts restored to the Society approximate G$1,000,000, and legal proceedings have boon inalitated for the recovery of considerable aditional sum.
