The artificial gutta percha of Herr Gentsel, [9% of Vienna, is composed of caoutchons and the resin of the pan free, and is claimed to rival the natural product at less than two thirds of the cost. A test in special cables fifteen miles long has given excellent results. The new material softens iess quickly than the roal gutta perche, while its electrical resistance is alightly superior, but it has the single disadvantage of being more glutineus, so that a costing of rubber is necessary for welding pieces together.
