A correspondent inquires whother coroners" inquests are over held in Hongkong, and, if so, who is supposed to hold them? The auswer is that coroners' inquests are held in Hongkong. though very rarely, the Police Magistrates being the foroners. My correspondent asks the neskon in connection with the death of a European resident who, according to the news- papier coports, was found in the readway one day last week with a had wowel on his forehead. It is suggested that the nnfortsuste man's 10 wasaccasioned by certainrepairs which were being come to the road. I agree that if this is all that is known of the matter, a coroner's inquest should have been hell to determine whether or not the accident was due to any neglect to inre public safety on the part of the persons effect, ing repairs to the roadway in question, or whother, as might conceivably have been this ense, the wound was caused in any other manner.

The uninitiated may not know that while the piano depends, as aforesaid, so largely upon skill of man for many of ita qualities, it for the sweetness and strength of its tone largely upon the quality of the sounding-board which Natare alene can supply. There is only ene kind of wood in the world deamed suitable for this transcendently important feature of the piano, and that is Swiss pue. This wood, like has to be well seasoned before it can be used, and consequently in a description of this sort mention should be made first of the drying room, where a quantity of Swiss pine, teak and other woods, are stored, and where most of it may have to remain for years before it is deemed it for us.
