The final tie for the Hockey Cup was played off at Happy Valley yesterday afternoon

Mr. Joseph Lind, Acting Superintendent of Transportation in connection with the Canton. Hankow Bailway, informs me that the new mction of the line from Fatahan to Samshui
will not be opened until April owing to delay caused in the constructional operations by the rains. It was originally expected that the formal opening of the new section should take place to-morrow. It is about 30 miles in extent On the present line from Canton to Fatahan about 4,000 passengers travel daily. When the now section is opened it is expected that the number of passengers will be deablod.

Mr. Austen Chamberlain, in his reply to the India and Ceylon Tea Associations, said that, owing to the pressat state of the finances, there is no prospect of a remission of taxation in the coming year. He denied that the coa- sumption of ten per head has diminished since 1909, though, possibly, the rate of increase had somewhat slackened, In referance to the increased duty, causing a low grade of Chinees ten to supplant the better class tee from India and Ceylon, and the suggestion that fiscal measures should be taken to check this Mr. Ausieu Chamberlain said that, under the existing fiscal system, a preferential duty in favour of Indian teas was impossible. George Day, fireman on thoas. Strathnevis, was charged with assaulting John Buchanan master of that steamer. He was also charged for Amateurs, where we turn out work of the best description and with great promptness, with Max Haruan, another fireman on the same steamer, with refusing to obey the lawful com mands of their superior officers. When Inspec tor Langley rose to explain this case, His Wor- ship said he could not hear it-it was a case for the Harbour Mastor, and not for the Police Court. In any case, His Worship said, he was fall up with other cases and had no time to try shipping cases. On Inspector Langley pointing out to His Worship the peculiar position it placed him in. His Worship brised the Inspec tor to apply to the other Court and so, whether Mr. Gomperts could talks the case. The case was therefore referred to the other Court. On placing the men before His Worship, the latter remarked that those enses ought not to be brought to this Court, but taken before the Harbour Master. However, lee would procved with the case.
