The CHAIRMAN said-Gentlemen,-To re. port and stalement of accounts having been in your lunds for some time, I propose, with your sanction, to follow the usual course and take them as real. At the last half-yearly meeting I was in a position to congratulate you on the revalt of the working, which compared favour ably with those of the two previous half-years. I have no practical knowledgo ball-year showe a decline of sons 10 par cent of the working. of the Dock Company compared with the previous six months, as will myself, but I have been informed by those who be noted from the following #guros:-$12,658 ought to know, and they tell me that this is the tons against 462,648 tons. The tonnage of only deck, company in the world where the British warships docked was 44,179 tons drawing offtes is in one place and the works in against 40,942 tons, and foreign warships, another. larger ships alluded to at previous meetings still continue, as evidence of which fact I may mention that during the docking of the Amphitrite, three large vessele bad to be refused, ris, the merchant steamers Siberia and Tremont, and the French orniser Chateaurenault, thus emphasizing the urgent need of further Dook accommodation. Whilst on this subject, I should remark that the question of lengthening the No. I Dock to which I referred on the last occasion we met, has been found unnecessary owing to the fact, since discovered, that the propeller shafts of the Siberia and Korea can drawn in-board, and those vessels consequently be accommodated. Coasiderable improvements aud additions to our plaat and machinery have bmo carried out daring the interval, including to bedding in oonerte and gring up of the machines and providing firing for the vast ares of the fitting shop, together with similar work to the wow bassfitters shop and the adjoining engine works and tool stoves. Extensions to the foundry and join rs' shop have been found necessary in order to cops with the increasing work in those departments. Additions to the working plant in the shipyard have also been made to allow for the fucressed size of plating both for new work sad for repairs, and further additions in this brauch ero in 'contemplation. The plate-bending rolle now
being erected are electrically deivaa and will be · capable of dealing with the largest plates now In use. With refereuos to the electric power extension at Kowloon, referred to at the last meeting, the old engine-house has been re-roofed, and extonaise flues laid to connect the boilers to the existing chimney, The condensing plant bas been fixed, and cupacious piping for same is being laid. The machine motors and columns for electric lighting throughout the Yard hase been received and the eagiues and dynamos have been shipped and are das at an ea ly date.
