THE CHINATOWN FAIR.
AN IMPRESSION.
In the broad glaro of daylight there is something of the sordid and drab, and the garish also, about Chinstown Fair. It is only when the Fair is seen under the glare of arti ficial lights that one becomes enamoured of ite picturesque quaintness and vitality. There is an nakindliness about the auu, for it brings out the blemishes of auch a scone as this. To take the noonday aspect of a thent. ical stage, for an instance, what could be more hidsons to the visual senas?. Or a gambling-hall when the first stupks of morning piarno through the chinks of the closed hustors and shine apon empty bottles, ned alude of stala tobacco smoke, and dishevelled gamestora? A saunter through the Fair in the morning hours suggests ench comparis But rotura at night-time, and what chanes is aron! No longer drab or sbody, the Poir is a brilliant medley of moving, laughing life, rich in col ur, leterogeneous, fall of sights to frost the eye upon and ponder afterward. Tu fancy articles that stock the wayside stalls and hear upon their faces as plain as any print coabl make it “Made in Germany" forget their ineel look audi tako, harnishing of silver soi gobl; the Chiness paper musk and "ja" paraphernalia shine out with
