Mr. Lan Chin Pak minated. The Chiness wash their clothes there because they cannot obtain a sufliciout supply from the rain. Be fore prohibiting it the board ought to one that they ha given a sufficient supply for washing purposes.
The Acting Registrar-General minated:- Cannot this hot water, which is now running to waste, be taken down to the corner of High Street and Pokfulam Road? It would be found very useful, I think, by the Chinese in Third Street and High Street.

LE MUNYON'S BANKRUPTCY.
In the matter of C. E. le Munyon, ex parte the Now York Export and Import Company; Mr. C. E. Bavis, of Messrs. Wilkinson and Grist, solicitors, appeared in support of an application for a receiving order. He said the petitlower was Mr. F. J. Mitchell, local mang. ger of the Company. Service had been made by advertisement and by posting on the Court house door, as his Lordship had directed.
His Lordship said it was advertised in the Daily Telegraph because he had bean ad- vertising freely in that paper, and his Lordship thought it most likely he would ses that paper. Mr. F. J. The Shing Kee was composed of several partners, but the two debtors were the only ones that were known to the accountant of the business, and they really did all the work. The earnings of the steamere during the six mouths under review show a hoary falling off as compared with these of the same period in 1902. This is owing to the increasing kaeu competition the Company has to contend against on all the routes run over by its steamers, necessitating a further considerable rednotion of rates since the date of the last report.
The usual overhaul and repairs have been effected during the half-year and the steamers are all in good running order.
The properties mortgaged to the Company have recantly been revelaod by Messrs, Paimer & Turner, whose valuations show them to bo ample security for the sums advanced. The value of the Company's investments in shares has been adjusted to figures well within present market ratas, the difference being passed to the debit of the investment fnctuation account.
Mr. Shewan resigned his seat at the Board ing the Colony, and Mr. C. A. Toms was nominated by the directors to Ell the vacancy subject to confirmation by the share bolders at this meeting.

WAE RISKS.
War risks on Lloyd's worked out at thirty guineas for the end of January; fifty guinoas for the first quarter. It is noteworthy, how- ever, that cargo from home now passing through Hongkong by Japanese steamers is insured at 10 shillings per cent, only.
