VICTORIA
RECATTA.
THE HONGKONG DAILY PRESS, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16rm 1903
TO-DAY'S FROGRAMME, To-day is the opening day of the 46th mooling of the Victoria Regatta. The Victoria Regatta is undoubtedly use of the functions of Hong- kong's not too cool, though pleasant, winter. Exchange banks will be closed for the transac tion of public business. All those who love | sport, in fact, lurn out to-day.
Captain G. Cowlishaw has kindly lent as a flagship the four-masted sailing-ship Brilliant, one of the finest afloat. Through the courtesy of Mr. Dixon, shiof nausger of the Dock Co., the tag Fame will leave Blake Tier on each day at 12.30 p.m., and 1.15 p.m., to convey viʼitors on beard the flagship. Anuther launch will leave Blake Pior for the flagship on each day at 2 p. Visitors will conveyed ashare ten minutes after the lost race. By kind permission of Lt.- Col. Bi.iwood, and ofcor, the band of the 110th Mahratts Light Infantry will porform each day. The secretary's launch will leave Blake Pior each day at noon to convey rowing members to the flagship.
Regarding the many events, there is sure to be a goodly gathering of Naval boats, owing to the large number of warships in port. In tho Challenge Cup, tha V.B. C. will at least give the Bont Club a good race. The Chairman" Cap, and the Germen Cap, it would seem. lie between Millar's crew (the Thistle) and Alves's crow (the Kornblume). The ParsÕE Cup may fall to Witchoil's crew (the Shamrock), hat there is no telling; there is little to choost between Witchell's and Jordan's crow (the Leek). As likely as not, the Tab Selling Race will be won by either Witchell or S. M. Gidley. The Snake-Boats' Race, open, to Chinese snake-boats, will be an interesting item. Yacht revor, if there be a good breeze, will be particularly attractive. programme of to-day's events is as follows:-
LIGHT GR-1 p.m.-Open to European non-commissioned officers and man of any regiment or corps of the garrison or to European crews of any of H. M. vessels or to European members of the police forcs, Entranco, $1 Distance, one taito, Bosts in bu approved of by the committen. Time allowance, 8 seconds per car. Four boats yanst start for 2 prizes 1st prize, 815; 2nd prize, $10. (Post vatries.) Servies cars and conditions.
