EXCESS OF PASSENGERS,
On the complaint of P.C. 127, A. Brown, of the Water Police, the Shun On Steamboat Co., owners of the steam launch Nam King, were charged with having on 30th October carried 75 passengers in excess of the number allowed by the license, Mr. E. J., Grist, solicitor, defended.
Complainant stated that at 4,30 pm. on the 30th it, he was on duty on the Harbour, and a thie staam-launch rather full up. He went on board sud asked the people of the launch to count the passengers. They refused. counted them himself, and found 217 on board, of the number allowed by their license.

With this end in view the girls, besides being instructed in the daties of roligion, are taught to read and write under the Braille system. SUICIDE OF TERKIH GOVERNOR.
Constantinople, 26th October. Governor Adri committed enicide. There are conflicting reports as to the reasons for his taking his life. It is said that he had incurred the displeasure of the Sultan and feared the loss of his office and waith, or perhaps death.
