The late John Crossland, the Lancashire bowler, was in his úlst year. A Nottingham man by birth, he was associated in Best-class cricket with Lancashire, appearing first for that anty in 1879. In 1882 he was the most dangerous fast bowler in England. In the season and afterwards he met with great success, but he will be remembered not so mook for what he did in the cricket field as for the controversy to which his delivery gave rise maintained that he was a fur bowler, but the majority of experts condemned him andoubtedly a Lbrower, Matters reached Kent at the climax in 1885, when instigation of Lord Harris, then their A littlslator in the captain--declined to play their return mustoh with Lancashire, same season, while the dispute was still at its boight, Crossland anddenly dropped oat of the Lancashire eleven, it being found that be had broken his residential qualification. The Rugby section of the H.K.F.C. met with a sad hlow to their hopes on Thursday, when the freen from H.M.S. Glory defeated them by a try to mil. The Club is wesk at half back (how much we miss the loss of Padday 1), and in werk-day matches is hurdly likely to get a good representation in other departments.
