The smaller railways using a large proportiou of the total number of locomotives and rolling stock have no repairing shops, and suffer great inconvenience and exponse in consequence, as it is difficult for them to get the necessary copsira not renewals attended to willout saribus delay. From these repairs alone a very profitable ecuree of ivcomb will be realised.

The Maunger has for several years designed engines for the East. Thuso designs have been scut home, and the engines constructed from these designs bare, when complated, given From bis intimate universal sati-faction. knowledge of the various Japan se Kilways, he is thoroughly accuainted with their require ments, as well as with the different types of locomotives now in service, now on onlór, and there contemplated, and for which orders have not yet been placed. It will be seen, therefore, that the Manager has an intimate knowledge of the type of engines required for the Japanese Hailways, and the cost of manufacturing and these ongines and the prices ac ually delivering paid for them by the buyers.

The land which the manager proposés to acquire for the Company is situate at Kanagawa, Yokolin, Japan, and is suitable for the par, poses of the Company as it adjoins the railway and water.

It is estimated that the buildings fully equipped can be completed and randy for work ton months after building operations commence, and that 25 locomotive engiãos will be emapleted within six meths of the completion of the workshops, and that the manufactura will go on at the rate of 25 ongines for each half year. This could be sold for cash as completed.

Extensive orders are cory frequently given for steel railway and other bridges for the East and in view of the lavelopment of railway construction, inch ordors will continue to be

In Canton, which is the third largest city in the world, all the ice is purobused in Hongkong and delivered by River Steamers daily, and sells from two to three conts per pound. Ia mumber of the batter class of Chinese will purchase ice; besides the immeuse namber of Ocean Steamers which are constantly in this port would, we know, tax this plant to its utmost capacity.

In addition to the Ios p'ant in Canton, we have added a Distilling Apparatus for making pure water, as it is impossible to drink the water taizen from the river, and the entire European population buy drinking water. which is also brought from Hongkong by steamer. We will dorive an additional income from this source. Furthermore, we propose to erect Cold Storage Warehouses at both points, where meats, fruits, ste., may be kept, there boing nothing of the kind in Canten at present, and a great demand for one. As the cost of operating this would be small, the profits are certain to be very largo.

In Canton we have an absolute monopoly as we manufacture on the spot, and farther mora, the Canton plaut will supply its share of steamers, as well as selling to the adjacent towns of Fa Ti, He Nam, Fat Shao, Sam, Shui, Wa Chow, and other towns on the Wes River. (Bacao will bo supplied from our Hongkong plant.)"
