You are probably aware that the Chinaman in taxed in Canada, and he is excluded from Australia and the United States. The only countries where he is freely admitted are Mexico, Molay Peninsula, and the islands in the Multy archipelage. Chinese alone has lately been so much referred to that I should like to mention that it is aot cagy to induer Chineso to bare China. Father Jackson to report what could bo dose to introduce religion and civilization among the natives of Borren, and missions have sin.co been established on the rivers on the west const under priests, who impart kouwludge to the natives in their own lugnage. At San dakan, on the east count, large schools for boys and girls have been establiskod under the charge of two priests and four nuns, where education is imparted in English.
The Bociety for the Propagation of the Gospel sent the Rev. W. II. Ehou to North Boruen in 18, who bas established schods and churches in Sudukan, Kadat, and Labay. At Kudat, the Fos, Mr. Riuliards bolds a rice a Chinese for the bonent of about 700 Chinese, who, before emigrating to Borueo, we con- verted to Christianity by the Genera Mision of Hongkong.

A few months later it was burnt down, nol Mr. Pryor selected the present site, near the entrance of the Bay, it is some what difficult to realise the change that has taken place.
