To-day the Rugby section of the H.&.F.C, play the Navy, and in view of the great im provement manifested recently among the Club backs, especially in the three-quarter line, there should be a fine game. It is rather a pity, to my sund, that there should be so little variety in the programme. Club v. Navy and Club v. part of the Navy are practically the only changes on the card. It is true that it would bo hard to anggest many possible games with the Knited number of Rugbyists in this Colony and the weakness of the military element at prezent, but public interest would be stimulated by seeing different sides in the field orcaseually
This afternoon after the Club Rugby match Mr. Atkinson, wife of the President of the Hongkong Football Club, will present the Six- a-side Challenge Cup and molais to E. D. C.. Wells's tean, the wieners of the competition.
Golfers may be interested in the following auggestion by Mr. Garden Staith in ore of the home papers with regard to the now notorious Taskell ball--If the alteration of present courses to suit the new ball and the raquiroments of fratelas play be impracticable, lot the ball for championship play be fired us a ball of solid guttapercha. This would preserve the status quo far as first-clau play is concerned, and would not interfere with I saer men, who would be quite content to pay with rubber balls at the present holes, which they find quite long enough. The situation would then be parallel to what existsin billiards, where Important matches ar played on match. tables with smaller pockets than those ased in ordinary play. Thare, would be little difficety in working aneh an arrange. ment. In club competitions and private matches any alteration in the relative form of players caused by the now balls wil soon be appraised and set right by a revision of handicaps, and for scratch oompetitions there seem no reason why they should not be con- fined to men using the gntly bali.
