CRICKET.-

,,,C. TRE SHERWOON FORRETERY. The match against the Regiment" usal always to be 'sue of the pissantest and mest interesting games of the Club's sonson, and, in daye gone by, it was satin that the Clab should put its strongest team into the field in order to slund any chance of winning. In recent years, however, frequent and prolonged terms of active service have had their affect upon, at any rate, the last to Regimenta stationed huro, and, a consequence, the fears they have pat ister the fold have not lon 86 strong as they might have been in more peaceful times, A long spell of hard fighting in South Africa and the necessity of supplying officers and men for the Peking Logation Guard hav considerably weskened the 1st Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters from a cricket point of view, and, consequently, they were unable to put very strong team into the field to oppose the Club on Saturday last. On paper, the Club XI appeared to be much too strong for them, Bad indeed it was a stronger team than the executive intended to solect; they, however, had uo choice, anly 12 names were put down in the match book: The match book was started with the idea of giving every member of the Cluben opportunity of playing in an occasional match, at uy rate; in spite, however, of the frequent plaints that "the young players never get i clunce," it would appear that the fault lies entirely with them, as they cortainly do not avail themselves of their opportunities., 7

On Saturday the Hongkong Football Club played a team from H.M.S. Argona!. There was a large attendance and the game was fast. The teams were as under-

With regard to the cricket on Saturday, it cannot be said that any exoptional form was >hown by any pus, and; thongh the Club won the match very easily, it was more on account of the weakness of their opponents than through any great prowess on their part. The S. E.'s won the toss and batted first bat were all dismissed for the poor total of 30. Only three tamen scored at all consequently there were

was chiefly instru mental in bringing about their downfall, capturing wickets for 23 runs, Goldring, too, was very effective for the short time ke was on, and took wickets for 4.rans. The Club easily headed their opponents score, muinly through the instrumentality of Turner (2) and Fawcett (25), Rimington bowled well for the 8. F.'s, taking wickets for 30. On going in a second time the Regiment did for better and Westaman (31), Hodgson (25) and Wybergh (22) showed that the Club were the posts, but only a somewhat fortunato in dismissing them so easily in the first lanings Indeed, with pre practice, there is no reason why the S.K's abould not piit a very fair team into the theld, and it is to be hoped that, later on in the

serson, they will give the Clab a much bettor and lower game. Their total of 116 with the scored in the first innings ouls left the Club 30 runs to get. With barely a quarter of w hour left for play, the Foresters sportingly weat out again at once without taking their lawfulten usinates interval, and the Club meat in Fawcett and Smith to try and knock off the runs. This they succeeded in doing, thank himost entirely to the hard-hitting of the latter, who scored his 31 not out in brilliant style. Thus the Club won, very easily, by 10 wickets and 11 Lumbly wes again enccessful with the ball inTM the Forester's second innings, and, in the match, took altogether 12 wickets for 59 runs a very creditable performance against any Lenzen A fair unmber of lacks graced the watch with their presence, and during the after nuou, by kind permission of Colonel Wyally and cera, the band of the Regiment, ander Band master Bradley, played un excellent programme, The following are the fall scores and analyses

The Navy defence was also good Banks in goal distinguished himself Basing brilliantly on more than one occasion. The backs were playing a strong games too, and fairly kept the Clab forwards in check, while Parker at centre-lalt fed his forwards well.
