During my vial

The grave illness of the King on the eve of the Coronation day has happily torminated without permanent injary to His Majesty's health, and the manner in which it was borne has served intensify if that to were posible the loyal attection for the person of His Majesty among his people, who wiming fortitude and the kingly, * qualities of courage displayed at that most trying juzetare. A sum of $20,000 for the preparation of the foundations has been placed upon the Estimates and I hope that in of this much needed
improvement. The ordin Ary Bay,zas for 1903 is estimated to amount to and the ordinary Expenditure to 34,581,285 to $4,714,501 leaving detail of $131,206. In addition to this the Enticosted Expenditure upon Extraordinary Public Works amounts to $931,100, while the Estimated Revenite from land sales is 8350,000, leaving a farther deficit of $581,100. The total dateiency to be made goed is therefore 8712,306. It is not expedient. to raise this sum solely from additional taxation, I therefors propose, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, to rains a Losa on sooount of certain productive Public Works, the total cost of which has been estimated by the Director of Public Works to be '92,250,000, the Expenditure being spread | over five or six years. The sam to be spent on these works in 1993 would amount to $5,62,000 leaving u deficiency of $150,306 to be met by additional taxation. To this amount must be added; naming that the Long is authorisad, Interest and Sinking Fund of Loan 325,200, Additional Military Contribution 361,650 and a Decessary surplus of $71,004 making a total of $308,250 to be provided.
