A good bar was not an absolute necessity, but it would be a very great convenience, An hotel without a fall florace was a most hybrid affair. As to the other hotels to which Mr. lade had -referred, the case of the Connaught House, in the first instance, was peculiar. When the Hoance was applied for it, the reply made was that there were already two ounces within about 30 yards of the premises; besides that, the room for which the licence was naked was either the Robinson music-shop or the adjoining premisen, and the situation of the bar would have been as objectionable as it possibly could be. As to Pelkom House and Waverley Hotel, these were boarding houses rather than hotels. With regard to the argument that there were already too many lice ces in the City, they were all agreed that there were too many in the East and the West, but there were not too many in this part of the town. It was a very curious thing that the only upholder of the public interest in the matter should be the abarest licensed hease, the nearest hotel, which naturally should imagine itself injured to some extent by this lissues.

Parties having withdrawn, the Court con- sidered the case in private. When parties were re called, The

The CHAIRMAN said-Gentlemen, you have had coples of the report and accounts posted you, and with year permission I will take them- as read. I regret the dnancial position is not so favourable as it was at the last annual meet ing, and this is mainly due to heavy expertes incurred at the Intarport matches and repairs to the Pavilion and the Becquet Court. DISTURBANCE IS AN INDIAN TEMPh};~~~~~

The CHAIRMAN Before proceeding with the election of oicers and Committee, there are one or two subjects I should like to speak to the members about and for this meeting to give some opinion an as a guide to the new Com- mittee. First, this Pavilion. It is in a wretched state of repsie and has been patched and Falcked antil in the opinion of your Committee it is. no longer worth repairing; anyhow, I under. stand some $4,500 would be required to put it into anything like ducent order. It is too small for the requirements of the Club, and it takes up valdable room in its present posi. tion: the proper place for a pavilion in our opinion is the northwest corner of the ground Sir, Ram, ever ready to do anything for cricket and cricksters bas kindly furnished the Commit- teo with a plan for a new bui.diag, and I think one of the first duties of the Committee you are sobema about to elect will be to formulate some The second subject I would like the meeting to give en opinion upon is whether the time has not arrived when the Club shonld have a paid secretary combining the office with that of treasurer. Unless we can get a man with plenty of leisure rare personage in this Colony to tako the post of hon. secretary, the interests of the Clab must suffer; it is impossible for basiness man to give up the time required to run the Club properly during the cricket season For years past, members have growled at the way to bar of this Club bas been run, and they have uus doubtedly every reason for couplaint; but I ses no chance of there being any improvemout in to-organisation unless we got a paid secretary this department or in others that require If the members present are of opinion that we should bare a paid seorstary and treasures, it would be the duty of the incoming Committee to revise the rules of the Club sad call an extra ordinary general meeting to pass the same. The retiring Committee are of opinion that the Club should ran the bar itself, and that from the prodits made on it a fair share of the secretary a salary would be earueri. I may meation that we could get a gentleman to fill the post, and one in avery way fully cam the oxoised portions of the report ns of Doing a dead body without the necessary permit petent to fill it, for a salary of $50 for the first importance, but the shareholders consider and depositing it is the public street.
