Hongkong, 4th September. SI-I read with interest in your issue of this morning the discussion on the question ruised by the Hon. R. Shewan as to the naturalisation of Chinese under more than one name. I entirely agree with the hon. member thut Chinese should not be allowed to naturalise andler more than one unmo, and that the aliases under which they are known, whether as honorifle, Literary, or otherwise, should be disregarded. The course suggested by the Attorney-General was a sensible compromise, but it does not, I think, entively mest, tue diffionily. I m given to understand that it is not uncommon for Chiness to become interested in one busines ntider one cognomen, and to be registered as partner in another concern under another style or tille. BODEMEYER . BOWA BREWING CO.
Mr. Muster in addrossing, the Court churao. terised Mr. Bodemeyer's casu un ag impudent clain.
Mr. Grist also addressed the Court. His Lordship in giving judgment said 'that the plaintiff had failed to prove that he had the authority of the Hon. Wei A Yak to pay Mr. vieslovsky's hotel expenses. That disposed of the alaim for $286 90. As to the item of $300 for travelling expenses, his Lordship believed that he had actually got the money from Maslowsky hot bad speat it on bis own pleasures and was now trying to come upon the Company for the amount. There was no word in the books as to how this $300 was spent, whereas miner ex- penses were fully recorded. As to the $300 for safary, plaintiff admited that his salary was re- duced to 350, and statel Ural Hon. Woj A Yuk and Mr. Fang Wa Chun naked him to go to Europe to raise more capital. The two defendants who were present were men of business, but it they were likely to employ the plaintiff at his full salary to go to Europe to raise capital they Lordsbig were not the sort of business meu.his thought them. He certainly would not have done so. The two defendants who had given evidence totally denied the plaintiff's story and be must accept their evidence an being correct.
