This ended the examination on side of the commissariat boat. The next man to be called was the coxswain of the steam launch Lee Sang,
amed Pang Fat, who stated as follows:-
About 10.30 p.m. on the 17th inst.. I came in the launch Lee Sang from Causeway Bay, making for the harbour. It was a very dark sight, there was a strong wind and sine rain. I had two men on the look-out at the bow. They saw dark mass in front of them. I pat the T did not know what it was. helm to port and went to starboard. Afterward found the dark wise had been a boat. There was no light shown on the other boat. I ordered the engines full speed astern, but in spite of it, we ran into the other boat. We rosoned two men from the other boat, and stond by for about an hour, endeavouring to find sonte more of the people.
Cross-examined by His Worship, witness emphatically denied that the other boat showed any light. His launch was going at half speed before ordering the engines to reverse.
Dr. Bell, medical officer in charge of the Government Mortuary, gave evidence to having examined the bodies of eight men, all of whom All the bodies were had been drowned: identified.

He afterward fomid out it was a boat. He denied the statement that the other bout flashed a light.
Inspector Cauld quoted a few statements made to him by first witnesses at a previous examination, quite different from what they stated yesterday
His Worship in closing the enquiry, stated. that it was clear that the eight men lust their lives by drowning, having been thrown into the water owing to the collision and the inking of the commissariat boat. He was also convinced that the latter had flashed no light, and the small ball's-eyn lantern in the bow had been perfectly useless also that the stoum launch went half spoed first and reversed her engines to avoid the collision. The statement of the first two witnesses as to haring flashed a lamp toward the larch was only made an afterthought.
