"I.. S. Waterwitch.. "Shanghai, 1st. Angust, 1001. "A moral patch on top of a volcanic pinnac'e rising abruptly from the bottom lies in Latitude

deg. 97min. sec. N.. Longitude 125 deg. 1. It extends about a quarter of a mile in NE, and S. direction, and is about 69 yards wide; the last depth obtained is 18 foot, but

water probably exists.

From The SW. extremo of the patch for a distance of mile in a SW, by S. direction extends a rocky ledge, the feast wutur obtained on which was 17 futhoms.

Very heavy overfalls and tide-rips were see on the patch, and they extended about A tails. NE. and I mile SW.

There are depths of 7 to 30 fms, sand and md, ut a distance of about a quarter of a mile all round the patch, except where the rocky lelge extends, so the lead will give no warning util within the limit where the bottom bacemes volcanic rock, scoring and broken coral.

This patch is probably identical with Costa Ries Breakers, reportal 1918, Soentra Rock, June 190; Chiynet Shim!, Sept. 1900; Bombay Discoloured Wafer. October 19.0.

-Tal streams run very strong over and in the vicinity of the rock, and they aes of a retalory nature. The stream was roning Waterwitch South knots an hour when th was close to the patch."
