His Worship-Why are you not afraid? Witness-The police interpreter told me I would get off if I gave evidenci.

PROFESSIONAL THIEVES-CURIOUS EVIDENCE Four rinderboat-men were charged with the larceny of a gold watch and chain, the property of Captain: Pussmore, master of the stommer Haiching, ou board that vetsel on the evening of the 25th May. The case is an interesting one as showing the necessity for a vigilant watch bring constantly kept on such characters when they board a vessel. The fear defendants were arrested by Sergenat Murison on the 8th. June, but the Hatching having departed for Calentia, the case had perforce to stand over ratil Captain Passmore e uld give evidence.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny.
Captain Passmore went into the box. He could swear positively, he said, that the four defendants had frequently boarded the Hui- ching. The watch and chain (the chain, with its appendages, was now missing) were hir property, and valued at $500.
