The Court is sccordingly entitled that on the Peptember the accounts rendered by Guskull E been accepted by G. R. Stevens & Co. sabetantially correct sad that the Loyal ac- counts were not impagued as usantisfactory because they were based on the materials say plied or offered to Gaskell to work upon, but because they did not tally with the manifests.

In the face of this acceptance by G. B. Stavons & Co. it was useless to point out a for items here and there which the defendante considered to be incorrect. Before accepting, sach alloged orrors should have been referred to Gaskell and the materials for correcting then inguished to him. With the original materials at his disposal Gaskell has done what he contracted to do. He has exercised the boundou ordinary amount of skill and know lodge incident to his profession as an account.

shook themselves up, but a run by the left wing was well stopped by Lapsley, who kicked ont of bounde. The throw-in was followed by a sharp tussle at rather close quarters in V.B.C. territory, bat Chunnett saved the situa tion by a sudden rush out, centring the ball Brett took up the running, and

es a smart run relinquished in favour of Seth, but the pass was too strong, and crossed the boundary, Eaton, to that end, tackling Seth.

Play went on, and at the interval the score stood:-V.B.C., 1; R.W.F..0.

As in the first half, play in the second portion of a not very interesting game was all in favour of the V. R. C. The forwards of the Fusiliers were weak, and as a result muxt of the work de- volved on the halves and backs, whose play, though nothing to boast of, was decidedly superi-! er to that of their attacking line. Barnard's kooping was very good, but all through he was asked to do too much. The V.R.U. forwards, when viewed comparatively made a very good appearance-Seth the best of all Among the defences, Lapsley, right back, and Lou- reiro, centre laid, were especially strong. At no time, from the one-sided nature of the game, had Channett much to do, but what he did he did well. The V.R.C., in the second half, added no less than three goals to their total, Yule being responsible for two and Herton for one The last was sa extremely soft thing, Barnard

running out and leaving his goal absolutely anprotected. The Fusiliers were not success. ful in gaining any points, and the game ended→→ V. R, U., R. W. F. 9.

Sergeant Bliss, R., was the referes.

A match between the 15th Company (Siege Train), Southern Division, R.G.A., and the 25th Company, Eastern Division, R.G.A., was of a more even and eonsequently more interesting character. With play somewhat in their fareur, the Eastern Division at half-time had one goal to their credit, while the Southern Division had nous.

H.K.C.C. V. R.W F.

This match was, we understand, the outcome of a sporting challenge by the RW.F. to play the full strength of the Club. The Regiment lave had a long run of victories over weaker combinations than the Club could muster, and it was natural that they should entertain hopes of being able to make a good game on this no. casion, moro especially in view of the fact that on 1st December last they vanquished a moder- ata Club XI. It was a very severe handicap that Higgon was unable to play for his side, in which, however, Freedy made his reappearance after assiduous medical aid, which we hope he will not again have to ibyoks.
