Hongkong residents have read much about the phenomenal success which has attended The Bells of New York at home, but until the visit of Pollard's Lilliputian Company they had not had the opportunity of witnessing in this part of the world, it being performed for the first time in Hongkong at the City Hall last night. The Belle of New York was the Avenue Theatre, Londen, having a con tinuous run of close on four years. It was rat performed by the Pollard's Company at Johannesburg in May, 1889, when it had a rau of Bre weeks. ATTEMPTING A FELONY.

Ip Hoi, of no occupation, was charged with attempting to commit a felony. He was found on the night of the 10th inst. in the stairway of a house at 1.0, Hollywood Road.

A Bikh constable stated that he found the defendant attempting to climb to the roof of the houso, and arrested him.

THE WRONG MAK.

Chang Cheung, az unemployed fireman, was charged with stealing from the person of Tipo Sharif, a private in the 3rd Madras Light In- fantry, a parse containing 36.55, in Queen's Road Central on the 10th inst. The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The defendant denied that the purse dropped to the ground, and that he attempted to steal it. He also was looking at the photos, and ac cidentally touched the complainant with his elbow.

His Worship dismissed the case.

A SHANGHAI CASE.

In the British Supreme Court at Shanghai the suit of Yat Lingship v. A. G. Wood has been partly board and journed size die. The plaintiff is a merchant of Shanghai and Hongkong, and the defendant is a member of the firm of Gibb, Livingston and Com pany, carrying on business at Shanghai Hongkong, and elsewhere as general agouts The plaintiff in his statement of claim alleges that he is absolutely entitled, according to the Chinese law of inheritance, to a plot of land at Pooting about an acre and a half in aros regis tered in the name of James Cock, who held the same (ascording to the endorsement on the title deed) in trust for one, Yue Kew-dong, since deceased. The said James Cock died on the 27th of Jans, 1868, and by his will he appointed George Watson Coutts his executor. The will was proved in the ordinary way, and George Watson Coutts himself died on 1st October, 1890, after having exeented a will in which he appointed Alerander George Wood his executor with certain diraations us to the administration of the trust estate. The said Tue.Kow-dong had two sons, Yue Chisung and Yue Long-sang, both of whom predeceased him. The former left behind his wife and daughter, Yue Lingshi and Teso Yaesli, and the latter died without issue. Yue
