THE FUTURE TRADE OF CHINA.

We think that legally we would perhaps be entitled to insist on the above indebtedness being squared before we aand over the Agency, but being desirous of facilitating matters as much as possible we shall not insist on this, although we hope that, in all decency, the now Agants will of their own accord pay us the above amount before they assume the Agency.

The issue of the preference shares has the object or providing for this deficiency and also for a moderate amount of fresh working capital A copy of a letter of the General Manager.

There are somo lots of tin dne here shortly dated 5th December, is attached herewith. The missing parts of the Frue Vanner referred to which we think we could also legally have ap therein loft Melbourne on the 20th November, propriated against the Company's debits to us, but in this respect also we wish to facilitate and are due in Singapore in about a fortnight.

As soon as the new battery is in work, the matters and have therefore not taken any steps

to deal with this tin. Mining Manager estimates the returns at, at leant, 17 tons of ore per month. Thus, on the basis of the price of tin at $66, after dodueting imparities, smelting charges, duty, &c., will yield about $8,900, against an estimated ex- penditure and writing off for depreciations, etc., of shout $6,600 showing an estimated profit of about $2,300 per month, or $27,500 per unnum; to which would have to be added the net profit on alluvial mining, say, por annum $15,000 total $49,500.

There is no reason why the profit should not be considerably increased later on by erecting one or several more batteries. However, oven on the above basis, the following dividend could ba pail, viz

We must finally express once more our regret that we should have been constrained to resign, We are afraid our resiguation places the Directors in a somewhat awkward position which we need hardly assure you we very much regret. There are payment orders outstanding for 33,700 which ought to be paid by the now Agents at once, or otherwise the Company's credit may suffer.

Fresh working capital will also have to be pro- vided or all operations at the mines may come to a complete standstill. We do not know whether the shareholders who stirred up the agitation wished for much a state of affairs. Anyhow they are responsible for it, as without the agita $42,500 tion we would probably have conțiuned to uso 8,150 our own funds for the Company's benefit, as Wo

have done in the past.

$39,350

which, distributed over $270,000 ($225,000 pre sont capital, plus $45,000 new capital to be now issued), would mean that the preferonce, share- holders would get a total dividend of about 22

The directors confidently expect that the preference shares will be taken up by the pre- sent shareholders, who, as there are no deben- tares, will practically have the whole company's assets and property as security. We bare still to add that the directors will offer the new shores atpar to existing shareholders, so far as they are accessible, in proportion to their holdings, viz. ona preference share to the holder of vrdinary shares. Of the 30,000 it is intended to lame only 845,000; the remaining $5,000 will only be issued if and when authorised by the shareholders in general meeting.
