This was an appeal from the decision of Mr. Justice Sorcombe Smith on a question of fact ard Jay and on the ground that the judgmont was against the weight of evidence in a suit heard in the summary jurisdiction of the court between the Yu Hing Lang as the plaintiffs and Carmichael and Barlow as the defendants, defendante on the 7th July.

DESTRUCTION OF A CHAPEL NEAR RO-PHO

With regard to the reported destruction of the English Presbyterian chapel at Ny-yun thung, it appears that there was a mistake. The chapel really destroyed was at a small place near the market town of Ho-pho in the Kist yong district. The walls were undermined at night by enemies, bat fell while they were work- ing and injured some of them The work of destruction was completed, however, the rart day by direction of the village elders.

DISTURBANCE IN A CHAPEL NEAR SWATOW.

On the 29th ult, one of the American Baptist missionarios visited the chapel at Tat-then-po, large town perhaps ton miles squth of Swatow. There was no disturbance in the chapel nor afterwante during the preaching in the streets. and it was not until the next day that the mis sionary Josrael that one of the native Christians had been severely beaten. It appears that some rude fellows entered the chapel not long after the missionary left and behaved so insiently
