But this recent Borer movement has changed the whole aspect, and condition of missionary work in this most favourable and fruitful mission field, and has threatened the entire destruction of all the patient evangelistic labour of the last quarter of a century. The missionaries re- mained with them as long as they could, plead ing their cause with officials from day to day. and doing everything that could be done for their protection and comfort, but week by week the condition of things grow worse and worse until at length they themselves were compelled to escape to save their own lives, and thoms of their families.
