The first match of the tour of the unth Australian Eleven, in England, was commenoad today at Shaffield Park when the Australians were pitted against a strong elavou selected by Lord Sheffield. The bats. men got to work without delay, and seemed to be at home with the bowling. The raus caro freely and the rilliant entting and olin drit ing of Joo marking was much admired, and draw from the onlookers hearty syplass. He gave one almost impossible chance in a terrific. ally hard return to Pengher early in the innings. The punishment which both the Australians meted out to Pongher's trundling necessitated a change being made, and when the score stood at 34 Jackson relieved him..
