after a summary trial nry forthwith be- honda. Every day from thirty to sixty of these wretolos, are so treated. The cry Mish- hui-hui"down with the 'Mahomedana"--is | attered by overgone, and it is rumoured that H. M. the Emperor of China wants all the Mahamedans exterminated in the vicinity of | Hooho, if not in the whole of the province. However, if Tang Fu ch’lang does not try any ether-way more cificacions of dealing with the rebela, ho will not be able to carry his work bo an end. Does he wait for soras fresh troops to get rid of the rebels, m make a olean sweep of thom for over? They say so. Nevertheless, it is well known that the Mahomedans are afraid, and that a great many of them have sur rendered; the stubborn ones have fled away in the direction of Mien-pa.

Tung Fu-ching has sent to Eanchew the notorious Laidu-shonn, whe, either by innotion or by treason, has withdrawn with all his soldiers to Hocha. You are getting very old, Tung Fu-ch'iang (aald to him, " go home, and after two years come back and see how I deal with the rebels”.

Some days ago this same old Lei arrived at Lanchow in a terrible state of despondency. His army has been nearly exterminated by the plague and the survivors are panie stricken.

The road from Lan-show to Long-show, and thenes to Han-chow, has been cleared by the soldiers of Tang Fa-chiang, but instead of the rebels who formerly infested it, it is now ove man by Chinese brigands and communica tions are infdanger of being out off. The olty of Yang-oh ang is quite free from rebels, and is under. the control of tho Celestial troops, Ku-lang was never bedeged.

On December 10th a friend at Hanchow wrote to me as follows:-

The Mahomedans in the neighbourhood of this city are plundering checked, in every direction. They put on the garments of the Chinese soldiers whom they have killed, and yo disguised are able to go wherever they like" without, molestation. They are badly armed; only few of them have guns, most of them being armed only with ondgels which, in some in stauces, are wrapped rannd with télegraph wires. The Chinese also cut the telegraph linee, not, however, to make wospous, but to soll the wire to the locksmiths of the country."

Last November General Chang sent a force of du troops against 600 Mahomedens, whose ranks had been swelled by women to equal this Imperial force. The Celestial braves wore sup portad by Chinese traderen; the soldiers, though well armed, were slain to the last man. The traders bolared themselves very well in the action-China Guzelta correspondent.
