THE MURDERZE OF MR. DAI GLRISE, A traveller from beyond the Cashmore border Las brought some frosk dews about Dad, Mahom ed Khan, the murderer of Mr. Daigland This men, together with the others tuplicated fathe orimo, was in Kashgar for senie. days after DYS murder, but the Chinese authorities, though. aware of the prime that had been committed, took no stops to arrest any of the party. Thera is a strong prosumption that they were bribed not to notice it. M. Peterhoffki, the Russian Conul in Kashgar has taken steps to have Dad Mahomed arrested it be pases into Russian territory.

The arrest of the Agent of the Hongkong Bank here caused great arcitament and indigan tion not only amongst the English nommunity but also the more enlightened Spaniards, who felt ashamed that strangers in their country should he treated as harably, and, many of thom think, unjustly, for they all admit that bad the Government thoughtitelf wronged, there doald havo been a flou even to the utmost lirait possis ble, but that such extreme cesures should not have boon resorted to, mora sapentally as they wore legally unfounded. Though undoubtally permitted to tomet bracers dicing the daye - 174 BRUCIAL-INTELLIGENCK, he was confined to his own bouse, which couli not be the same thing as being in his business premiers, bis detoution wight have caused great loss and inconvenience to the Baut, but it is believed fortunately not to have done any real harto. The whole affair, arose through half caste clerk.(who had been dismissed in the Back ́some timoago with a year's pay )informing against the Bank of certain trazeactions executed by it and very many hours of commeres in this city for many years.

This inatter was got entered into by your correspondent before, through feelings of resorve, bat now that it has beon made public there is no objection to these re- marks being made. The remarks in your Sings. pore contemporary about liberty haing non- existent in Manila sro perfectly true, it is an unknown privilege. The people themselves don't seem to mind it for the sime reason that the rats don't mind skinning,-*VÍK, gartom.
