The fire-extended over a brick wall to some ont- bouses on the adjoining compound, which also were destroyed, bat the dwelling house of Mr. lark though at one time is some peril was sated. Fireman, both foreign, and Japanese, turned out, but no effort souki have saved Mr. Meiklejohn's house, the only result of their presence being some damage to Mr. Clark's furniture and the commission of an assault on | the erupsit.
