So soon as the Royal party was seated. Mr.Canton Insurance Office, Timited-$75 per Frank Archer, picturesquely drossed a Virgit, in a classical costame, read the introfaction to the first tabloan. The appropriate poem was by Mr. Savile Ciszke, and was admirably written for the purpose, for it was neither too long nor. too short, but kept to the point, and in simple language described the patriotic deads rapra-" sented in each living pietren. Mr. Archer road the lines in a clear and resonant veice, making, however, no pretenca to doclamatory effect The first picture represented Edward I. pro- sending his infant son to the Welsh at Car ñarron Castle. The King Mr. H. J. Stock) was auperbly dressed in armour, with a war cost of esshmere, having the arms of Eax- land emblazoned on the breast. He was shown as holding up the Infant Prince in a sort of kingly and paternal manner establned, whilst a lady of the Court (Miss Holingahead) taakod on with a certain expression of anxiety for the welfare of the baby. A Bishop (Me. W Simpson) in a splendid garment-a genuins English cops of the 14th century-stood to the right, whilst choir boys swang sensors and np. held wazon tapers is used in the Catholia rite of baptiam. Warriors mingled with the maids of honour of the Queen on the left of the picture. and stood out in admirable reliaf against the sombre background, reprenanting prezimably an ancient chapel of the Castle of Carcarros. This fee tablean was the joint pruduction of Mr. Waltor Wilson, Mr. Fulleylove, and Sir James Liatos. It must here be mentioned that one of the Knights Templora held an identical sword which was onca the property of that uramiable monarak, King Joan. The ploturesquely-dress- ed Chamberlain in this scene was usled by Mr. Earlo, whilst a disconsolate hard was Tân premated by Mr. Flayos. Virgil next rocited the following linea

Wo turn again an old historie pago To Great Elizabokhe all-golden age: When with unerring hand car shakespeare cam4, Wrote his name highest on the scroll of fame, And lives for ever. The second tableau was disclosed, which repre- sented Sir Francis Drake being knighted by Queen Elizabeth, and was designed by Mr. Staniland and Dr. Cattermele. In the "kask-- ground was seen the Thames at Tilfmry from the deck of a man-of-war of the Elizabethan period: The Queen (ca. E. Tate), magnificently at. tired in volvat and gold, was shown in the act of touching the great Admirel Hr. T. G. Greylls) with the sword on his shoulder as he knelt at ber feet. The ladies, represented respec tively by Mrs. Galtermole, Mrs. Bowen, Mrs. Bayes, Miss Walton, and Miss Mousies, most an Jurately drossed in the richest alke brosados,

On the left was a grep representing India, and in this Mr., Dollmann, who modelled the Lion, nad Mr. Gourbould, who designed the tableaux, appeared splendidly dressed in Asatio costumes. But somehow or other the West Indies were not present, nor was New foundland, which vorisinly ought to have been included, being amongst the most ancient and. loyal of all our „polonies. One and all of the tableaux reflected the greatest redit upon the artists who derised them. The personages, 50 in number, engaged ware all selected to account! of the striking likonossas they born to the chá rasters they impersonated, and their sostnines were not only accurate, but in several instanoss were the identical ones worn by the historias] elebrities theydropressated.
