REPORT OF RELIEF PARTY.

The Chineso show wonderful recuperative energy, and instead of raiuly grieving over their losses have gone to work to repair them a fas possible. Very few houses comparatively. have been redalt, but the people are crowded in the houses of their neighbours or in the ancestral halls. It was a strange sight to res the floors of the houses made into vogatublo gar- dens, but the mud bricki had been broken op and inrmed into soil and grooms were growing on the sites of scores of houses the remaining wails making a garden wall.

The people in some cassa erinced their grati fade by bringing a written card of thanks from the aldors of the village. No doubt thin proof of the hindly feeling of foreigners towards the distressed will do much to remore prejudice and prozante mutual good feeling between the Chi- nose and Westerns.
