The returns of foreign Imports and Exports of the territory for the half year ended the 30th Jano, 1894, have been furnished us by the courtesy of the Government. It will be under- stood that theen returas rolate only to the foreign trade of the country and take so nation of the osantrisa trade in native boats and small steamers which is of considerable importanco. No record. of these is kept nor indeed would it be possible to cbtain correct returns withont ontailax incen-O venience and sinayaacs upon the numerous - tivo carrying craft, the owners of which, having no conception of the raison d'etre of the registra-ON tion of trade, safe exily trightened by the en- forsement of regulations Laving that object.ON in viaw. The total valus of the foreign trale was $369,508 importa amounting to $244.917 and exporte to $124,590. Tho Fast Coast contributed $276,029 to this result and the West $98,472. The difference in the value of the Imports and Exports-is-to-a-grest extent accounted for by considerable remittances being made to Singapore and Hongkong by Deans of Trosary notes, which do not appear in the returns and possibly by a not very unnatural desire on the part of some of the smaller Chinese and native traders to erado, a portion of the customs duties by deolating ander the fall value of their exports, Thore being scarcely any im. port datics imposed there is no object in under- eating the valas of articles imported-Herald.
